A rare green Bitossi Canister or Lidded Jar made in ITALY in the 1960s.
This jar is the same shape and size as others credited to the designer Aldo Londi.
I have not seen another jar of this colour. Presumably it was a high use kitchen item and many would have been damaged/broken in the last 50 years.
The early/vintage pieces of Bitossi were hand made but most recent pieces are made in a mold.
Most of the their pottery was made from glazed white clay and was prone to colour chipping.
This jar has fared well and only has 4 small chips to the green glaze. The visible chip is on the outer rim of the jar edge and there and 3 less visible chips on the inner edge of the lid.
This jar is the same green colour inside and out.
Size: 15cm tall with lid x 11cm in diameter
Bitossi Ceramiche has operated in Italy from about 1871 to the present day.
Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was their Art Director and a designer from 1946 to 1996.
