Beulah Ware and unbranded Bakewells Brothers Pottery

I am currently in the process of updating my Bakewell Brothers article and will be adding more information about early Bakewell’s like ‘Beulah Ware’ and the more mysterious items that are ‘unbranded’ but accepted as Bakewell’s products. I also have new reference books and websites to add which have helped to expand my article. In 2016 I first wrote my article on Bakewell Brothers Pottery. It has been very popular, attracting readers daily and getting lots of  comments, questions and

Crown Crystal Glass History & Gallery (Aug 2023)

Crown Crystal Glass History & Gallery           I had been buying bits of old ‘pressed glass’ and ‘depression glass’ for years, but not realising that the majority of it was made in Australia, and by essentially the same company, and for nearly 50 years. The Crown Crystal Glass Company operated from 1915 under several different names and after 1963 became part of Crown Corning Ltd. They had factories in Sydney and in New Zealand. From 1914

Denby Pottery History & Gallery

Denby Pottery History & Gallery (updated May 2023) I have been interested in Denby for more than 20 years and occasionally find pieces in my bargain hunting. Denby Pottery was established in 1809 by William Bourne after the discovering of clay in Denby.  They started with commercial containers and innovated in firing methods in salt glazed kilns. In the 1900s they concentrated on kitchen wares and art ware. It stayed a family business only until 1942. They still operate today.

Iittala Finland History & Gallery (updated May 2023)

Iittala Finland History & Gallery I have been collecting Iittala for about 10 years, but I have decided to downsize my collection to just my favourite patterns. Iittala Finland “dates back to 1881 when a glass factory was established in a village of the same name in southern Finland.” “The breakthrough came in the early years of modernism and functionalism during the 1930s and 40s. At that time it was pioneers like Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Kaj Franck who
