Bakewells Pottery operated as Bakewell Brothers Ltd in Sydney from 1884-1955. They produced a large range of domestic and decorative pottery.
They started to produce under the name Newtone Art Ware in about 1937, mainly decorative pottery in a great variety of shapes and colour-ways. Most of the pieces I have seen appear to be slipware with hand applied glazes, including drip-glazing. The backstamps I have seen are “NEWTONE” ART WARE BAKEWELLS SYDNEY and NEWTONE POTTERY SYDNEY.
